I am a retired Software, Mechanical and Electrical engineer. I have been the Chief Technology Officer for several successful companies over the last 25 years of my career. When I started with computers I had to build the first few before I could program them. My love of the electronic aspect of those along with the intrigue of the ability to interface them to mechanical things has guided my career. Over the years I have had the privilege to build a dozen or more CNC machines. A CNC machine is a robotic device that takes movement commands from a computer. I have built CNC routers, Plasma Cutters, lasers, 3D printers and more. I am always amazed when a software computer program can carve wood, cut metal or mold plastics. I've also done welding and machining. I volunteered to organize and cook for large groups in outdoor camping areas many times over many years and to make that task a little easier I have built numerous cook trailers. Now that I'm retired I enjoy playing with those machines. I have several CNC routers with which I can carve figures and signs. I have lasers that can etch, burn and carve. I also have 3D printers that can make parts. In hobbyist circles I am what's known as a "maker", I make interesting things of all types. In the Summer months I am now able to be at our place in Forest Lakes and enjoy the cooler weather. In the Winter months I am mostly at our home in Mesa. Regardless of where I'm at, I seem to have a steady stream of people I can help and things I can do. Over the years I've made a lot of signs, 3D printed a lot of parts, things out of wood and I've milled things from metal. Some examples of those are on this website. I am also a licensed amateur radio operator and love learning and using those skills to help others. I have 2 radio repeaters (one Amateur VHF and one GMRS) located in Forest Lakes and I am involved with other repeaters in the Mesa area. In Forest Lakes I have my CNC Routers that can carve wood and my Lasers that can etch and cut. In Mesa I have my 3D printers that build things. Either way I'm just having fun and living the dream. If you are interested in some of the technical aspects here are some pictures below. |
CNC router I built predominately from wood.
I have this one in Forest Lakes.
Cuts up to a 3'x4' area.
Uses a liquid cooled 220v spindle motor.
One of my first CNC router builds.
Cuts up to a 2' x 4' area.
Made using 8020 aluminum extrusions.
Genmitsu 3018-Pro Mini CNC router / carver.
Cuts a 250mm x 250mm area.
Used mostly for carving 3D figurines.
Mini Laser engraver.
Mostly printed by my 3D printers.
Uses CoreXY technologies
Controlled by GRBL on an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi
A few of my different 3D printers.
Bambu X1 Carbon + AMS
Bambu Labs A1 + AMS
Prusa MK4S
Some of my "Maker" parts I keep and use for building stuff.
